How to render a see-through object for compositing?

#1

Hi;
Could anybody please explain me how to render a transparent object (for example an empty glass) separately in Vray and composite it in After Effects which I be able to put another object (layer) behind (under) it which it be visible through the glass.

I rendered my glass and saved it as 32 bit TGA but the glass is not transparent (see through) and just has Alpha informations.

Sorry for my poor english and hope you get my meaning.
Really appreciate your help.

Hi,
One click and you’l have your alpha channel as you want for later compositing.

Go to your Vray Material > Scroll down to the Refraction Area > Then Affect Channel, Change Color Only to All Channels.
Hope that helps
best regards,
Ismail.

Wow!
Really thanks, it works good but there is another problem.
When the Environment color is black, it tints see-through parts of my object a little black and when I change Environment to yellow it becomes a little yellow.
I want my object be completely independent from environment.
Is there any way?
Thanks again for your precious help.

Are you implying you want the glass to refract the layer underneath? Refraction can be complex and use the entire environment so you will need to build up a more elaborate setup. It’s not going to be a simple a over b
