How to paintover lots of video frames?

#1

Hi guys I have a question

I want to animate using video frames as guidelines (onion skin) but use photoshop to do paintovers of each frame while having the previous paintover as an onion skin also

I want to achieve something like this http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=cRZMjHzWXQc

HOWEVER, this guys has literally traced the frames, I need to use the previous paintover in conjunction with the new frame as reference. I am not tracing as such, just using the frame and paintover as reference.

I need to use the photoshop tools as the style I want I can only get with photoshop layers etc

What software should I use, i am new to animation

Thanks in advance guys

cool video Qui32.

For that kind of work you are going to need Painter XI, since it can onion skin multiple layers. Up to 7 I think.

Keep in mind though that the person who created it, is probably an experienced animator. Because he animated fewer frames by breaking down a 60fps full motion video into something that he can work on.
(Imagine drawing 60fps for 2:06 min…that’s 7560 drawings!..not very effective)

I suggest you research a bit about animation before you begin working on anything. Learn to break down motion into essential frames. My best guess is that he converted the video into 24fps and animated on 3’s and 2’s…but I could be worng.

Anyway, best of luck

cheers
