How to modify the UV of a painted tool in a 3d program and import it back

I would solve any issue I came up with through a simple search in CGTalk but this time I failed or I might have used the wrong key features. anyways, here’s my question:

Is it possible to modify the UV of a painted tool, in my case, in 3ds max, and import it back to Zbrush without losing the painted information. If it is, how would I do that ?
I just need to have a slight UV modification in 3ds max and repaint the problem making area.

It took me a couple of hours to paint my tool and it’s a pain to redo the whole stuff from scratch :frowning:
