How to model wooden rural houses as seen in Witcher 3 - advice needed

#1

Hello!

For my next portoflio piece, I would like to make a next-gen worthy log house, similar to those seen in Witcher 3. However, I am not sure what would be the best way of approaching this project. For instance, would it be better to model and sculpt the logs individually and assemble the walls that way; or just use a tiling texture and model from it? And for the roof, should I just use some stepping geometry, with some alpha planes attached to it, to give it more depth, or use another technique?

I hope you could help me out with this. I have also included couple of reference images to illustrate what I mean. Thank you!

Here are the reference images:

Depends on what you need it for. For a high quality render you need build the pieces separately.

For a video game then you will need cut a few corners and use more tiled textures, alphas etc for the roof.

For all the walls etc build some nice wood structures, then copy paste/ vary the shapes.
