How to install new action items?

Can someone tell me? how can i install new action items in 3d’s max 6…
i downloaded a plug-in…i if i want it to work i need to install a action items to him.
thets what is writen in the readme file:
Install Advanced Painter action item (found under ‘Painter’ category) to your toolbar, main menu bar, or quadmenu. Please refer your 3ds max documentation for more information on action item installation.
