How to insert a new edgeloop?

#1

Long story short: How do I insert an edgeloop in modo?

Long story:

This might be a very noob-question, I’ve been playing around with modo for awhile and I really appreciate the level of control it gives me with subD’s contra the “sculpting method” (mudbox, zBrush).

One thing I just can’t get a grip of is inserting a new edgeloop, you know what I mean? In maya this is called “insert edgeloop” - splitting an edge ring with a new edgeloop.

This should be a basic procedure in my opinion and perhaps it is, I just haven’t gotten to terms with the loop slice/axis slice tools and the slice tool itself seems kind of unprecise. The edge slice tool I like and let’s me finetune my topology but I still need to be able to insert edgeloops instead of clicking the long way around!

Maybe the loop slice/axis slice let’s me do this but in that case maybe someone could bother explaining how to me how to pull this off! Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanx in advance!

select an edge, run loopslice, drag to set the position.

or select many edges, run loopslice, check to box for slice selected, drag to set the position.

further to the above…

Loop slice also works with polygon selections. Just select two (or more) polys to define the direction then run the loop slice tool. As above, the ‘slice selected’ option will limit the cut to the selection rather than the whole loop.

…also, Loop slice is one of the tools that I feel makes sense to have auto-activate enabled in the tool pipe. Try this out and see if you prefer it that way too.
