How to get Maya animation into After Effects

#1

I have a pan shot in Maya and I want to import the animation into After Effects. All I did so far was batch render the animation and I’m wondering what I have to do to get the full animation to play in after effects.

Batch render all your passes out as a specific file format that AE will accept (I usually go with Targas since they support alpha for passes). Then import file into AE. When you import (you should have a single file per frame of animation) there will be an option in the import window for importing as “footage”. This will pull all the frames in as a video.

Also make sure that you set the frame padding in maya so that AE will know in what order to bring in all your files. IE. if you have 100 frames of animation, you need a frame padding of 3. That way your files will be in sequence starting at 001, 002, 003, and ending in 099, 100. This can be done by going to into common tab of Render Settings.

Hope this helps =)

I’m not getting the result I’m looking for.

I am doing a full 360 pan and when I play the animation, it goes through like it’s suppose to. I batch rendered the 250 frames I have as targa. Now I need to add that animation into after effects like I said before. Do I need to bake the simulation? If so, how would I do that and what do I have to do to get that into after effects?
