How to elongate a layer in the timeline in After Effects?

#1

Ive created a very simple character in Adobe Illustrator, named all the layers, saved it as an .ai file and imported it into After Effects. I then drag the character down to the timeline. I double-clicked the comp to enter the layer so I can use the pan behind too to move the pivot points. Finally I have parented all my layers in correct order.

The trouble starts when I want to animate it. I can’t increase the lenght of the timeline. It seems to only go as far as 1 second. Ive tried increasing the composition time lenght and I’ve tried dragging the layer to extend longer than 1 second but nothing I do seems to work.

Can anyone please help?

You say that you’ve tried some things, but you don’t give details of what. You say that it’s not working, but you don’t give details of the results. Please do so. Until we have more information, the best that I can do is point you to these instructions for extending a layer.

Time freeze the layer, then you can extend as you wish.

There’s also a setting in the prefs for that, don’t know where exactly though.

I still couldnt figure out what I did wrong so I just started a new comp, set the time lenght to 2 minutes and then imported the ai file and now I can adjust the layers with ease. Dont know what I did wrong.

Thanks for the replies
