there is no smear or blur brush in mud2009…
if you need a soft blending use the airbrush…

But then it will be in a different layer! There is not way to merge them?

there is a paint layer merge in service pack 1

The only solution I can think of is to open Photoshop or a similar program and import the the texture file from Mudbox. After editing, save it, then “refresh” the image in Mudbox again.

That all depends on how you laid out your UV’s as well. The better you lay out your UV’s, the easier time you will have in painting over it in Photoshop.
