How to create my showreel in after effects??

#1

First, sorry for the long post. I am a complete beginner in after effects & i’ve just watched video co pilot’s basic tutorial series.i am actually creating my showreel in modeling & i have rendered out my images & turntables & i want to combine them all in AE & finalise the showreel. I am still a bit confused on the whole workflow in AE but this is what i think i should do-

1.Import all my footages in AE(I have about 13 still image renders, two opening & end credits images, 4 video turntables & one soundtrack)

2.After importing, i have to create a new composition.

3.Next, i have to add all my footages to my composition. i can do this by dragging them to my composition window or to the timeline panel. this will automatically create individual layers for each of my footages.

4.Now, i want my showreel to start off with an opening image that has text on it, say"modeling showreel".i want this image to last for two seconds only. After that i want my rendered images to play as a slideshow with some effects & transitions.between these images i want my video turntables to play.

This is the point where i am a bit confused.since i want my footages to play one after the other, i think this is what i have to do- Since, I want my showreel to be no longer than 1:30 or 2:00 mins. So i’ll have to arrange my layers in such a way that all my footages will play within this time one after the other.so i’ll have to specify the start & end time for each separate footage.

for example, if i want my first render to last for at least 3 secs, i’ll have to place it in the timeline between 0 & 3 secs, then start my next render from 3 to 6 seconds. i’ll have to do this for all my footages.the effects will also have to start & end with each of my footage.

Am i right about my workflow?Or am i making a mistake somewhere?

Thanx for taking the time to read this.
