How to create a floor contact plane?

I know how to create planes.

I know how to turn on floor contact for my feet or hands. But the contact only works with the grid.

I want to know how to make it work with a plane because my landscape is not flat.

I want to know how to do it in Maya 2012.

I don’t want a link to this: http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/fbikguide.pdf
because the information there is biased (non existant menus etc, seems like they copied the 2009 version and just pasted it for the 2012 but everything’s different).

If anyone could help me, it would save my life, I need this badly for my demo.
