It will be highly appreciated if somebody can help me to find out the cut tool or split face tool . I know there is loop tool and all but how to make cuts manually?
How to add cuts in Blender 2.5 beta?
Should be the knife tool, select edges or faces you want to split and hit K. Not entirely sure if that still works in 2.5 though.
Yes its not working, I tried. It will be tough to move on with Blender as long as it is lacking the cut tool. I hope they will bring it back in their next revision.
I’m using the latest 2.54 beta and it works here.
Select the face or edge you want to cut, then press “k” while left clicking (and holding) as you drag across the selected surface.
this should work.
hope this helps!
ctrl+r should do the tric too and then use the scroll wheel to add more or less cuts.

After the “hold K cut”, don’t forget to press F6 to get the tools operator panel (or down after pressing T for tools panel)
Hmm, what about triangles when you have made the cut?
Is there a possible way to just split a face in half?
The triangles are due to Blenders lack of support for ngons and are difficult to avoid given that the only usable geometry components are quads and triangles. However, the bmesh project, which is a major upgrade of mesh modelling tools, is proceeding slowly but steadily and should resolve most of these issues.
Check this video for a demo of the new knife tool, built as part of this project.
Not sure if it will arrive as part of the 2.5 series (which is mainly going to focus on stability and returning 2.4x era functionality) or during 2.6.
