How much SHOULD you fit in a UV map?

Hey all…so I posted another thread asking a separate question for the same project, I hope that’s OK…

For this project, you’ll notice that I squeezed the entire well and all objects into one UV map. I combined all objects in the well into one asset.

Is this acceptable? I plan to make the texture pretty high rez…it’s 2016…games can support 1024 or 2048 rez textures correct?

theres no requirement to fill every little bit of space. it’s just efficient to do so. every pixel that isn’t occupied by UVs is wasted space. what you’ve got there is actually quite well done. strive for that as much as possible but don’t lose sleep over not being able to fit it all nicely together.
