How do you use AE in your 2d work?

I’ve seen lots of great artwork in here that includes After-Effects as one of the tools in the final part. What is it used for (and why can’t PS handle it?). Thanks

I think it is mainly up to user preference, After Effects is primarily for video editing like adding 2d assets/compositing. Photoshop can handle anything as far as image editing goes and similar effects that After Effects could create/edit for a image. I like to use it when playing around with comparing results from multiple lighting passes
