Hi guys, I’ve been learning cg, mostly self taught for around 4 years now. I’ve covered most things from animating basics to rigging, lighting, texturing, modeling, etc. I finally settled on chosing modeling/texturing more specifically for characters as my main focus but It’s hard for me to tell where I am skillwise, what needs more work, what else I have to focus on etc.
I have a hard time functioning without structure so I was hoping I could get the syllabuses or course curriculum from an art school maybe and just go through that like a check list to see what I know and what is left… is this a good idea?? Or maybe just go though a very in depth ebook on modeling and post what I make on the forums for feedback. I really like the idea of following a school curriculum on my own because Id be forced to be on par with professional students and have to develop all of the necessary skills that are required to get a job instead of feelign like I’m just messing around at home.
I’m usually working on a team or two with other people to help them make video game assets so there’s some feedback there but I want to really integrate doing projects for other people and for myself with feeling like Im growing and learning and able to keep track of my progress and get feedback as if Im enrolled in school
Any advice would be most appreciated. Will start posting more on the forums for sure.
Here’s some stuff I put together for now on my reel. I haven’t put up 3d turn arounds yet http://ferociousdesigns.daportfolio.com/gallery/790658#4
