How do you close windows and panels in Blender

#1

What a nightmare just trying to do this simple task. Everytime I try closing windows, tabs and panels I just end up creating new ones and can’t close it. I even bought the new book for the new version and they seem to assume you know how to do this.
Can anybody help here? Almost embarrass to ask this!

When you hover over the little tab and it turns to the plus sign, click and drag INTO the window you want to remove. It should be overlaid with a big arrow. Let go of the button, and the window without the big arrow takes over that space.

Or you can simply right click on the dividing line between 2 windows and pick “join area”

Thanks …I was able to muddle my way through it with your help.

BTW I got Roland Hess book for version 2.6 …so I contribute to the software even though I don’t know how to use it.

I have always heard there was a method to Blender’s madness …just wondering out loud …what could this tortured method to close a window …be for?

As an alternative, hold down the <shift> key when dragging out a new window - it pops up a ‘traditional’ window that can easily be moved, scaled and closed. Very handy for a dual screen setup.
