How do I "DISTORT GLOW" a video

#1

U know that “distort glow” effect on Photoshop? where it finds the background color and melts it all over it’s edges with a fade?

well I’m trying to find a similar effect but on AE.
“glow” didn’t help unfortunately.

if all fails, i’ll simply export my vid on .MOV, export that .mov into frames, and then batch process a “distort glow” on all these frames before putting them back again.

i’d just like to find an easier approach on AE

Thank u.

Could you post a sample image to show us what effect you’re after? I’ve never heard of Distort Glow, and a cursory Google search didn’t turn up anything except the Diffuse Glow filter.

Might you be talking about rim lighting?

yes that’s the one, diffuse glow, it falls under the “DISTORT” category in the filters.

sorry i mixed the names, but it’s the diffuse glow effect i want, only with 0 grain value.

Simple enough. What you want is Effect > Stylize > Glow. Change the Glow Operation to Screen, Glow Colors to A & B Colors, and set both the A and B colors to white. Then play with the Glow Threshold and Radius until you see something you like.

I did something similar to this with a recent project where I wanted the highlights to bloom, giving everything a surreal, dream-like quality. I applied the glow on an adjustment layer, so it was easy to apply it to the entire video, but I could still mask it away from objects or shots where I didn’t want to see it.

If you want to see how I applied the effect, the video can be viewed here: http://www.bryanray.name/wordpress/?p=155
