How do I connect a "curves ring controller" to m skeleton

#1

Hello all.

Maya prop/environment modeler here.
Not familiar with character modeling/rigging/animating.

See that circle ring at the base of my skeleton?
1: How do I connect it to my skeleton, that with will affected my skeleton/joint/whatever when moved or rotated?

2: When I create more rings for the shoulder, wrists etc, how do I restrict the movements? only having the circle affect the rotate only, or translate only of the joint, and in turn the mesh?

3: Is it possible to scale the size of individual joints?
I’d google all this info, but I’m not even familiar with the terminology, so IDK what to google.

Hi ContrivanCe,
you should really check out this page http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=54&t=49073

  1. there are many ways to connect the skeleton, usually through hierarchies of controls (those circles), with a contoller for different parts of the body.
for example to move the skeleton with just that one control, parent its root to the control (the root is the start joint)

  2. you can restrict movement by locking the attributes in the channelBox (highlight the attributes, right click -> lock selected)

  3. Yes, usually done through a series of nodes or controllers. If you parent a joint under a controller, scaling the controller scales the joint.
