how do i choose a programer?

#1

hi, I am a 3d artist.
I am intend to make a 3d real time game as demo.
I have no idea how to choose a programer to help me.
my budget is low,
when i interview a programmer, what should i ask from them?
my demo will be action game with simple scene but lots of effect (ex: glass breaking…etc.)
I will probably take OGRE as my enige…
please give me advice,

also, to hire a good programmer ( who know well the 3d engine and script), how much should i pay to him per hour?

Thank you.

Maybe instead of hiring a programmer for a bit of one off work, you could join an open source game project. Most of the successful ones (meaning ones with playable demos) have great programmers but terrible art.
At any rate, you could also try approaching one of those projects and offering to subsidize whatever features their game lacks, that your demo needs. They’ll probably be able to quote you what they feel their time is worth, and you already have a sample to evaluate their work by.

I myself am a programmer, not looking for work, but i know where plenty of game programmers are, and most of them are looking for help or for a graphics artist. The site is: Game Dev Forums - Help Wanted.
