How did www.3rd-art.com make their Characters?

First of all, I am a beginner, by no means know all the thing I need to know yet, but this one questions is burning in my mind. How did www.3rd-art.com create their characters.

With Max or Poser? Maya? Xsi?

Second questions, are these what you would call “stylized” characters.

Once again, I am just learning all this…
