I want to create levels for Unreal Tournament and CS, but some editing programs like UnrealED are very boring to modeling. I have 4 years of experience in 3D max, if i could use it to create my levels in UT or CS will be great. Does anybody knows a plugin or a program to convert this files?
How can I use 3D max in my mods (UT, CS)?
Well i don’t think you would really want to model the entire level (UT) in max, in UT2k3 you can use max to make a lot of stuff I.E. static meshes, but basically you need some bsd, and unrealED has some really spiffy tools, you wouldn’t create characters in it, just maps, but unrealED can import stuff you make in max not sure what the file format was at the moment though… Anyway you look at it your going to have to use enrealED either way… I’m not so sure about CS though… never messed with “worldcraft”? if thats what its called… Basically you can use max to create pretty much everything in your level (ut2k3) but basic stuff will still have to be made and tweaked in unrealed, and i actually find it pretty easy and intuitive and there isn’t anything cooler than getting to test play maps you’ve made hehe so much fun to just mess around in…
You should look at www.3dbuzz.com they have a bunch of tutorials for level design etc. as well as exporting static meshes from Max and Maya to unreal.
can you also go from maya to, say valve hammer editor. I have my map all laid out on paper, and I am very proficient in maya, so it would be great if we could model the map in maya, then export it somehow. possible?
also check out polycount.com for tutorials on all kinds of game modding…tutorials and tool are bounty full…and i beleive you can import obj. files into unreal ed and convert them to bsp brushes in the right click menu…you would have to retexture everything tho…
…you might as well model the level in unreal ed…its way less of a pain in the ass and much faster, same goes for valves hammer…
i used to make levels in unreal ed, i’m pretty sure theres a way you can make something in a program like 3dsmax and bring it in as a brush, keeping in mind how important keeping the poly count of levels in games is, i dont know why you dislike unreal ed.
