How can I make a laser pointer effect?

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know the best way to create a laser pointer effect? A light dot that travels on the surface of your scene and 3D objects.

Think of a cat chasing a little red dot.

Try using a little red direct light or a projection mapping of a red spot. Lots of ways to create this. Naming the software you use makes it easier tp help btw.

You could also try using a spotlight with the color changed to red.
Or you could try using a sphere that has been squashed.
