HMC 29: Sci-fi Icon = Motoko Kusanagi = the-woz

#1

Hi there!

I’m going to try modelling a bust of the character Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell

I’m going for the Stand Alone Complex series style, but I want to model her with the head gear shown in the mid-right reference picture (from the Playstation game).

This is my first serious attempt at organic modelling. I had tried to model a head several times before without success.

This is my progress so far:

C&C are most welcome.

I’m advancing very slowly…

Some work on the VR gogles

(Big version)

Im no pro but around the chin and at the cheeks seems a bit weird to me.

The equipment looks great though.

Thank you Michael, I’m a complete newbie when it comes to organic modelling and I think I missed a loop in the chin area, I haven’t figured out how to fix it yet. I suspect the same issue is causing a little pinching in the cheeks.

The biggest issue with the chin is that kind of pops down from the jawline. From the side view the jawline should be somewhat straight from the chin back up to the bottom of the ear.

I like the visor thing though, it’s looking pretty good so far.

Sorry for the lack of updates, been very busy lately.

Thank you very much spindraft, I fixed the chin, I think it follows the jawline better now

the chin looks way better now, i really like Motoko from the series and Im glad someone choose her.

could also be my imagination (due to the visor) but her face seems a tad to slender. in comparison to the very round head … that makes her look a little childish to me

anyway keep up the good work!

@MichaelLeprich: Yeah I think the upper side of the head is too bulbous, but I don’t have time to correct it.

I spend most of last week learning to use Maya’s hair.

Didn’t have much time to work this week but here’s a test render:

I’ll try to finish before the deadline, adding the cables, a little fixing in the hair and if times allows, some shading.

My computer broke last saturday so I will not be able to finish on time :frowning:
In fact the old computer I’m using to post this doesn’t even have a SATA controller so this model will be unfinished until I get a new computer…
