HMC #29: Sci-fi Icon: Christopher Johnson - District 9

First time entering in a challenge here. I’ve been itching to get back into 3D lately and I’ve always liked the alien designs of District 9, so I’ve decided to try and recreate Christopher Johnson. Hope he is considered “iconic” enough. I’m sure this will turn out to be far, far beyond my skill level, but I’m ignoring my better judgement and trying it anyway. I would like to do a full body, but may end up focusing on just the bust depending on how difficult it turns out to be.

Currently collecting images to draw up some model sheets. I probably won’t be able to really dig into this until the weekend. Hopefully creating this thread now will force me to commit to finishing it.

Didn’t get nearly as much done this weekend as I had hoped. Still just blocking in basic details. Not very impressive but here’s what I have so far.

Progressing very slowly, but I’ve managed finish blocking in the body. Just need to make a few tweaks and rough in his clothing, then I can finally start sculpting.

Made some corrections to proportions. Slowly making my way into the sculpting phase. Not very detailed yet, but its getting there.

Wow, looking great so far!! I’m surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention. Would love to see some wires of the head!

Thanks, Japetus! I’ll try to remember to post another wire later on. Honestly though, it’s pretty much the same basemesh from before with the detail sculpted on. And the forehead “scales” are a separate mesh placed on the head. Probably not the most elegant approach but seemed the easiest way at the time.
