HMC #28: Comic Book Master Tribute - Marc Silvestri - Killjoy

#1

So I was going through some of my old comic books and found an obscure character from issue #2 of Cyberforce called Killjoy. Loved the design of the character and have wanted to do a female sculpt for a while.

Here is the only image to be found on Google that is decent

#2

Here is the basemesh I will be starting with. Good luck to all the other contestants! Look forward to learning a lot here.

#3

Thats a cool character! The hair looks neat

#4

Awesome yo!
Im actually doin Marc Silvestri myself except im going off a hulk drawing he did that i thought was really cool.

great start and good luck

#5

Great choice!
I wonder how many people actually remember Cyberforce and its spin-off Codename Strykeforce.
Anyways, nice base! I’m looking forward to more wip images.

Cheers!

PS: Your ref image is drawn by Michael Turner btw, just in case you haven’t noticed.
I think that was from a trading card set.

TitForTat: Thanks for the heads up on the basemesh but I went over it again and it said that basemeshes were ok if they were made before this challenge. Good luck man!

akacg: Yeah I saw that this morning! Great minds think a like lol! Good luck yo.

TheRazorsEdge: Thanks man! I was going to do one of the WildCATs characters but soon as I saw Killjoy I knew she was for me lol. The image I have of her on here is the only one I could find that looked professional lol. I will be going off of Silvestri’s design though. Good luck!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I will make sure to visit each of your threads too before the end of the day. Good luck to you all!

#7

Another update. Going to finish the arms and hands then start on the details

#8

Update. Any crits and comms are appreciated.

The hair is just a place holder and looks kind of like “french bread” right now lol.

#9

So this is what I noticed so far, in the source image she appears pretty buff yours so far is very thin. I would say to thicken and muscle up the arms and lower legs. The hips lack the female curve, and the shoulder area is really broad. But good work and keep it up.

#10

cbeese: Thanks for the crits. I am on a different computer at work and didnt notice that all the images i posted earlier did not show up since you have to be logged into my studio’s forums to view them lol. No wonder i wasnt getting any feedback lol. The reference image i posted was the only one on the net that looked professional enough to post here. There really arent that many images of this character as she was only in one issue. If i can find a scanner somewhere I will post some of the ones in the comic. I will definitely take your crits to heart when going back over it tonight. Thanks again!

#11

Yeah I wasn’t sure if you were trying to post anything before or just telling us what you worked on.

#12

hahaha! live and learn. Thanks again!

#13

Here is another update. didnt get to work on it that much. Had work i had to take home. Can you believe it!?

#14

Nice work so far!

Here’s a few crits: The feet are much too small. The neck looks awefuly thick from the side. Her face looks really manly, especially the jaw right now. If you want to want to go for the Michael Turner look, Sienna Miller might be a good ref (Baroness in GI Joe:Rise Of the Cobra). Just enlarging the head might help counter the currently massive look of the shoulders.

Keep 'em updates coming!

Cheers!

I agree with what razor said, also the source image has shoulder pads that make her shoulders look bigger but right now yours round with her shoulders. I would bring in the shoulders and extender her shoulder “pads”.

#16

TheRazorsEdge: Thanks man! Didn’t have a lot of time to mess with the feet but i will definitely look at that. The neck looks thick cause its cloth around her neck. Thats not actually her neck lol. The face is modeled after my girlfriend so now she is all self conscious! THANKS A LOT!! just kidding, yeah it needs some more work, im going to take some more reference photos of her later tomorrow to model from. What you see here is just from memory. The reference image i posted in this thread is not what i am using. I am using Marc Silvestri’s rendition of her and i know her shoulders look wide right now but thats what she looks like in the comic book. Ill see what i can do about bringing them in a bit more. Also, if you have time, some paint overs really help. Thanks for the comments they really help!

p.s. If you right click on the image and select VIEW IMAGE you will get a much larger view for better image quality.

cbeese: Yeah in the comic book Cyberforce issue #2 thats what it looks like. Her jacket sleeves are super wide to accentuate her slim waist and legs. It will all come together. If you could post some paint overs to illustrate what you see in your mind that would be helpful.

Didnt have much time to work on the legs right now. I am getting all the small trinkets and such done around her waist to see what it looks like and messing around with shadowbox. Cant wait to make the guns using shadowbox. its gonna be sweet. Thanks for all the critiques fellas. It really helps!

This is what I am talking about, and also as noted maybe widen the head or something? the shoulders look really wide and would look even wider if you make the changes I indicate below.
