HMC #23: Ansel Adams Tribute: Traiven3d

#1

I’ve decided to go with a creative environment for this one. After looking at a few of his
landscape photographs I was most inspired by these:

So I did some quick thumbnails to try and flesh out a composition (thumbnails.jpg below), and then cleaned up the one I liked the most and did a quick paint over (sketch.jpg). I’m trying to get a nice flow and balance of lights and darks, as well as playing with 3 contrasting surfaces; the pines, the craggy, linear cliffs and the organic mass of rock, tree roots, moss and forest debris.

Roughed in the geo. Going to prep it for export into Zbrush to start developing the general shapes and forms. The composition isn’t a perfect match for the concept, but I figure I’ll need to tweak as the piece develops.

I look forward to see your progress in Zbrush, very organic scene compared to many of the other projects in the challenge. Happy Zbrushing, regards Anders
