HMC#23 Ansel Adams Tribute - ArchangelZero

#1

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and to the 3d graphics community in general. I thought this challenge might be a good way to introduce myself. I’m trying to stay away from nature scenes due to my lack of skill/time (I’m in France right now visiting family and I’m only going to be back after new year).

I’m a max modeler (student) though I want to use some Zbrush for this to get ahead of the curriculum.

I’m leaning towards this pic right now

but I’m also interested in the following ones:

http://zeligbyzelig.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/sather-towers_branches.jpg (the branches might be a tad difficult to complete within the time limit though. Tips?)

I really like these last three as well, especially the 2nd one, but I don’t know whether or not they would be admissible as I’m having a bit of difficulty confirming Ansel Adams actually took them.

What do you ladies and gents think? Which of these would you like to see? Any tips?

Thanks in advance,

Happy Holidays!

Hi!

Finished blocking out the basic layout of the photograph. I ended up choosing one of the Los Angeles set. Hopefully, it’s admissible, if not it’s still loads of fun.

This article: http://americandigest.org/mt-archives/006189.php and a quick visit to the Los Angeles Public Library site (www.lapl.org) convinced me the photo was actually taken by Adams for a 1941 issue of Fortune Magazine.

This is where I am now:

Next up, the details!

Cheers!

Hi!

This is the Lamppost with the Lockheed sign.

Cheers!

The lamppost and the sign look great, if you keep that level of work with all the rest of the various parts in your reference you will have a cool model  Look forward to see more.
