HMC 22: Self Portrait - Mike Hanson

Yay another challenge! I did a lot of searching through my art books and tried to decide how I wanted to define “self portrait.” Eventually I decided to do something a bit more comical, but traditional. I think it will be a lot of fun. I will be doing a self portrait of myself based on Pietro Tacca’s "Bust of a Nobleman in Armor, 1610. Thanks to the Chicago Museum of Art:

I think the armor is pretty cool and I love the little detail on his chest. To me it looks like a mustachioed head with wings on it. The man in this bust has quite the look! I’m excited for this one. Time to go take some reference of myself, hehe

Here’s some reference of myself. I just happened to be wearing my Splutterfish shirt today, I’m not actually affiliated with them at all. It was late, you can tell cuz i’m yawning.

Awesome. The frills and the mustache will really make this a pretty killer project.

Think I might have to bow out of this one. Life is just too busy at the moment. I also am starting to realize that I like to spend my time creating mechanical items, not characters necesarily. If I work on this any more I’ll post what I get, but I’m looking forward to whatever the next challenge will be! These are so great
