Soooo…just like Paul / robo3687, I also lost all my file for my face sculpt. I was thinking I was prepared because I save a ton of different versions of files. However, I am stupid and didn’t back up my laptop for 2 weeks. The night I am sitting next to a note that says “backup data before bed” it crashes and my hard drive is totally dead and chirps when turned on.
Well, lesson learned. Note to self: one month old computers can crap out of you, don’t be lazy, back up NOW when you think of it.
I might have the vase/props saved on my school’s computer for some reason…I lost a lot of work I needed for school too and will be making that up the next two weeks probably. Sigh.
Polymaster: I did a sketch closely following the designs in the photo reference, but made it flat (no perspective). I turned that quick sketch into a black and white (black background/white linework) document in photoshop, then imported the alpha, using drag rectangle and clay brush I carefully aligned it four times (for each section of design - I had 2 main repeating patterns) around the vase. hint: turn on x4 (or x8) symmetry and make a tiny dot where the center of the drag rectangle should go for each design.
Once the alphas were translated onto the vase I smoothed it out so I could barely see the designs. Then I masked in the entire design (using symetry x4 along the x axis) how you want the final to look. Just use the underlying sketch transfer as a rough stencil, use your own judgement on where all the design should go. After masking the whole design use the inflate deformer option till the design protrudes out. After that, happy sculpting.
I don’t know if this is the best way, but it worked pretty decent for me. If I didn’t explain this, let me know and I will try to explain better.
