HMC #21 Massive airship by David Wranding

#61

wow man! - Im so proud hehe! - it’s really a joy to see this come to life and believe me I tried to model this one…

really like the details and the overall feel… keep it up man!

#62

haha, that is gonna be sweeeet.

i think it would be rude not to have one deploying in the final shot

#63

sweet work!

#64

Brilliant modelling. Love the massive scale of the model

#65

THE BIG ENTRY !!

gud luck man …

Made a medium rez anti-aircraft gun that i’ll be placing around the ship. It’s about 4500 polys:

One more update: Been working on filling the holes in the model. Updated the guns, and added details on how the engines are attached. I reduced the number so that there are a couple in front and 6 in the back. Still having trouble about what to do for the bridge area and below the wings and parachute drop. Can’t figure out if the lower area should be armor, canvas, or what. Any ideas would be appreciated! I hope I make deadline…

Trying out some piping and a semi-round window in the front

Holy moley! Your airship is looking fantastic! Are you going to texture it? Although I dunno I always enjoy staring these lovely clean gray scale renders. Good luck with the final stages mate.

Guns guns everywhere, love it. The AA guns look great at that distance. I expect they would look pretty good up close too. I’m not sure you should add too much to the front of the ship. The contrast between the massive detail in the back and simple angles in the front may be throwing you but I think it looks pretty good. The piping provides a subtle breakup to the smooth angles in the front.

As for the bottom area, maybe expose some of the super structure underneath? That could also be the area that houses the powerplant so maybe provide some vents. Auxiliary outputs to the main stack on top.

Thanks guys! All the great feedback and comments are what is keeping me going at this point. This has been the hardest challenge yet!

Songai: I might do some minimal material coloring to break up some of the surfaces, depends on if I have time.

Wyatt: That’s a great idea. Need to cool down this mother somehow! The more I look at the front, I think I might get rid of the window thing and get rid of some of the piping. It’s a little bit too much now.

#71

Just a quick update of the front and back. Will hopefully have time to add some detail to the bottom:

#72

once again I really like what you have done so far with this :bounce:

about the lower parts - how about a “bomb room” hehe…

  • It would be cool if the ship could drop some big ones…

I will think about the engine part…

#73

hope you don’t mind me scribbling on your piece!

  • this is just a quick sketch for now…

hope this can help you along…

#74

Oooh very nice…i like it! Concepting is definitely not my strong point. Something I am trying to work on , but it’s a slow process  i was thinking of something similar for the bomb bridge. Seems like with engines like that, there should be some cool intakes from somewhere. I’m thinking maybe remove the window areas on the front side of the balloon and put some on there? I wonder how that would look.

#75

Update. I loved daw’s sketch he did today, so I threw in some engines. They are big huge rotary engines with some rudders on the end. I think they work pretty well. Will add greebly stuff and some piping later, now I gotta get to sleep:

#76

great work I love this big airship and the collaboration between the concept/modeling exciting to watch keep it up.

#77

That’s a quick turnaround, concept to sketch, I love it. And the bomb-bay doors, that’s a no brainer, good call Daw.

My final post! Thanks for everyone’s encouragement on this! It was bigger than I expected, but it turned out well.
