omg this is INSANE. You are so inspiring. I really feel motivated to start with in 3ds max now! This is a wonderful thread.
arhhh! with textures and all. fancy that.
great work dude.
waiting for more expressions.
ahh! sorry. no crits.
-r
looking good Brett - one thing I’d crit are the eyelids - they don’t have any thickness atm. Keep’em shapes coming
Thanks for the support and crits guys :).
TyroneMaddams: Haha. Too kind, you sly dog.
motorpsycho:
. Not sure what to say I’m afraid. Good luck with your entry :).
rasmusW: Thanks buddy. You should have entered this. Its insanely difficult. But its a lot of fun too :).
Intervain: Thanks Mag. I’ll check the eyes out. This expression could be punch drunk love. For your fantasy character  . haha. Which is looking awesome by the way.
Ok so here’s the next expression. Drunk. Had a good laugh making this one…

Your quick texture render looks like him, but the posed one doesn’t. Maybe if you add the texture to the posed model, it would help. Also, maybe the eyes are a bit too droopy.
The shirt looks great!
Regards
Giom
Is anyone else reminded of Will Weaton? Like you want to smack him.
I think the likeness is definitely there. The problem may be that this is more expression than the actual actor ever shows. Just did a quick Google from his films and he mostly seems to have the dumb open mouth look.
Great job so far Brett.
Hey Brett. I’d say the likeness is pretty much back.
It looks like there’s a lot of brushing going on there.
Very cool how much can be done only with that.
Keep it up.
Hi guys, I really appreciate the crits and comments. I’ll try to attend to the crits but right now my goal is to get out as many expressions 1st.
Giom: Thanks for the crit. I’ll get back to them when I get a chance.
WyattHarris: Thanks Wyatt. Ye its tough finding ref for an actor. Often people won’t need to use the full range of emotion in a movie. I’ve ended up screen capping a few expressions that look similar to the emotion. Cause I bet there aren’t a lot of drunk faces in movies. Not for shia anyway.
Spin99: Thanks man. Yep been really worried bout the likeness. haha. Your madonna is looking great.
Mawh: Hehe. Thanks. You’d be surprised how much a face can change when your stupid drunk. The feeling in the face goes to hell and you are left looking like an idiot. Not that I’d know :).
Here’s the next one. Disgusted…

And my ref for drunk was this scene in transformers. Where he got knocked down and has no idea where he is. I figured being drunk has the same similar qualities. I just changed a few things to try push the drunk aspect more…

Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Brett
P.s… Big pics again. sorry :P.
I don’t think you could have nailed disgusted any better. Great f*****g job man. I am really impressed with this one.

yeah this one looks way more like him!
I agree with one of the previous comments, the original has very limited range - or let’s put it differently - is more subtle so there’s no way a really exaggerated face will look real on him
Keep’em coming!
Thanks mag. I do agree. Problem is will the emotion come through on a subtle still frame :/. I don’t know. Hmm. Not making excuses just rambling out thoughts :).
LOL how awesome-o
Very funny expressions!! We need to put Shia flirty next to Magdalenas sexy Mephisto love expression and just watch the magic happen nods
You are on a roll, keep powering through
TyroneMaddams: Lol! Only magic that will happen will be Mephisto burning Shia to ashes. hahaha.
Here’s sad. Hope you like it…

Nice one Brett. Very convincing. One small thing, though. I understand that the neck SHOULD fold and crease the way you have it when he turns his head, only it looks weird. I think it’s only because the upper crease is a little too deep. Gotta love that damien standard, thugh. one of the best custom brushes I’ve had the pleasure to use.

Really cool stuff. But the indented irises are really bothering me, the real way to do it is convex not concave, the concavity look comes through the refraction of the liquid in the cornea.
