HMC #20 - Expressions-Shia Lebeouf

#61

Waiting for the likeness update. Anatomy looks fine.
I think you had a little better likeness previous.
But it’s there. Keep it up.

#62

Keep stroking that model!
It’s not easy to catch the likeness. Many lighting, FOV, makeup…even if you shoot yourself you’ll look somewhat different on every picture.
But I can tell that this is him so you are on the right track.

#63

hey dude!

like i already told you a dozen times. this is much much better.
hope you get time to do some cool expressions between projects…

#64

Nice! Looks like everything’s there. Just needs some minor changes around the cheek/mouth/chin areas. The cheeks might be a little too puffy. Keep at it

#65

I agree, the previous version looked more like him, it had more definition. Anyway, i agree about this being the more accurate model so far. And the skin is looking great now;) .

Cheers.

#66

very good work

#67

hey BrettSinclair,
It’s really awesome!
Is it possible to see a wire without smooth?

#68

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments and crits. Heres Shia revisted the over all shape. I’m really happy with him at this point. So hopefully I can start some expressions soon!

Giom: Thanks I’ve looked at the ear. Hope its better now

TiMrozek: Thanks for the compliment. Though he still needs some pimples and things at this point

Intervain: Thanks mag. Your entry is looking great! I’ve adjusted what you mentioned.

RageOfAges: Thanks, I’m looking forward to seeing more zombie in your thread

Spin99: Thanks man. Hopefully its better now. Your madonna is looking great so far!

nfuchs: Thanks. Your self portrait looks great so far. Looks like you

rasmusW: Hey buddy. Congrats on the hero in the gnomon gallery. Thanks for checking in.

d8D: Thanks. Hope its better this time.

JMART: Thanks for the kind words and crit. Cool idea bout the caricature for Jack. His looking great!

devileater: Thank you

neorillaz: Thanks. I’ve attached an unsmoothed wire. Its basically same as the smooth. Maya has a viewport smooth. If that makes sense. So the topo is the same really.

Hope you guys like it so far.

Cheers
Brett

Nice work Brett, I think you captured his likeness very well.

#71

#72

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments.

Heres the 1st expression. Dispair. Hope you like it. The hair is still wip and so is the hoodie.

Gotta get to more expressions in the meantime. So hair and hoodie will happen bit later on. If theres time hopefully

Cheers
Brett

#73

nice progress Brett - I’d say give him more wrinkling between the brows for that expression. Waiting for more.

#74

Yea nice progress man  I read it more as a kind of contemplative sadness than despair, kind of like my face after watching him in transformers…

I think of despair as a kind of Laocoon expression, with more tension in the face (probably similiar to what Magdalena was saying about the brow).

Of course that’s just my interpretation of the word, and I really think it’s a very nice sculpt regardless of that, but you could just keep this and have a second one pushed further and call that despair? God knows it’s a struggle to get 15 expressions done for this challenge…

#75

Hey guys. Yea. I’m not entirely sure what emotion it is. I’ve run through the list. I think your on the money about contemplative sadness thing. I basically wanted to do the expression in the pic from transformers:) Haha. If it doesn’t read as any of the listed emotion I guess I’ll just sculpt up other ones and have this as the unknown. It was just nice to escape the dead look:).

Thanks again guys. Both your entries are rocking:arteest:

#76

The likeness is f*cking awesome!
I’m a big fan of your work, man!

#77

First that all Great work so far,
I was looking at your references photos in the first post and if the latest model is the same #8, I guess that the last feelling is more near to -worried- than dispair, the lobe of the ear seems a tad flat IMHO. keep the good work!

#78

I agree with stridiggio. My first impression was worried, and if you push the features just a touch more it will be rediculously blatant that it is a worried expression. There is something funny with the ear that I noticed. I think your loops are a little tight in the circled area, or perhaps you can redirect a flow so that the fold isn’t so “Origami” like. Regardless, He’s looking awesome, and with the hair added, the resemblance is uncanny. Keep up the great work Brett. Really looking forward to seeing more results.

Could you describe your technique for the hair sculpt? I understand you said it wasn’t finished, but hair is something I’ve normally avoided in a sculpt, and it’s hard to find a tut. For my Zombie I just ran the rake tool just to get an impression of hair, but I really like all the wacky designs you have in yours.

#79

Thanks guys.

neorillaz: Thank you

stridiggio: Thanks for the crit. I’ll look at the ear lobe:)

RageOfAges: Thanks man. Hmm. I’m not sure I agree with you on that. Perhaps it needs a bit of smoothing. But thanks anyway:).
The hair was done using clay tubes with radial smooth on the alpha as well as lazy mouse set low. I also used the dam standard brush( really awesome brush) and the elastic brush. I’ll try capture the hair when I work on it again depending on time :).

Heres Rage. I was just fooling around with brows and things and thought it could be rage:p
I’ve also updated the jacket.

Also did a quick texture wip and render. Its not final. Still lots to fix. Hair might change as well as a few things :). Eyes are also the wrong colour. That will be fixed too.

hope you like it so far…
