Tools: Blender-XSI-Painter.

Hey There, I want to be part of this Hardcore Modeling Challenge, After think a moment my character will be the actor Robert De Niro , since I like his work and is a big challenge to me.

The perfect Character to me and source of reference is Paul Vitti, interpretation of Robert De Niro in his work at Analyze That

Well I need to see again the movie and get some screens with the expressions which I want to work with.

hehe yeah he’s funny in that movie, with lots of expressions … I’d suggest Stardust too - steals the show

#3

This’ll be great to watch!

Cheers!

#4

Intervain and TheRazorsEdge: Thank you for your time.
I saw StartDust yesterday and is another great reference of Him, thanks a lot for the reference of this movie, BTW nice Art Direction there.
If there are time I’ll be working in the Captain Shakespeare  ,

Ok, I am starting today the challenge with this cube for the base mesh, a lot of work for today  (but…is Sunday)

#5

I’ll be watching this thread too. De Niro is a great actor. I can’t wait to see what the expressions will look like!

#6

Awesome choice! Love the reference you grabbed too… Surprisingly that guy has a hell of a range, you watch him in ‘Heat’ and he’s like a stone wall, then you see ‘Stardust’ and he’s all over the map. Looking forward to some updates!

#7

iatethecrayon: Thank you, and your welcome! also good luck with your entry,
nmcelmury: Yep hehe, there are films in which he looks too serious, but these films are other thing (This Captain S. is like another J. Sparrow :argh: . ) Still I have to choose between those and other better expressions but not edited still here.

I’ll be watching at your threads also to see your entries, cheers.

UPDATE. First 2 Hours of work for the base mesh in Blender:

#8

If you’re not painting on top of that it looks like there’s quite a bit of work to go.

–Update-- Really nice flow by the way.
Maybe I need to experiment with something like that for the brows sometime.
It’ll be interesting see how it’ll behave when you push it to do expressions.

Keep it up.

#9

Spin99: Hey, thanks for the feedback, looking forward for more of your work
… cheers.

☛ UPDATE: Base Mesh,

keep working!

#10

Hey there,
Update:
I’ve Worked in: teeth, hair and face generally. too tired :scream: ,

#11

Cool work. I see a semblance.
Looks like it needs some refining work though.
Also the teeth look a little simplified.

Maybe you can work over a reference for that?
Realise people’s teeth are all different maybe.
Also think you need to bring out the inner loops of the lips a bit.

It would probably look better if you only rounded the lips more.

#12

This must be Surprised! Great job; now on to the next expression

Gyahaha I’m only teasing. I find I really need to strain and squint to see a likeness here. I think you need more geometry to form the overall shape of the head better. You’re well on your way, though. Keep it up.

Spin99: Thank you for the crits, I’ll be working more in those parts of him,.
RageOfAges: Thank you for the crit also, the reason for do that Surprised ( ) face was to get an idea of how looks the deformation of the edge loops to control the muscles of the face, is not necesary add more geometry because I’m working in the level 0 and 1 of Subdiv, with the sufficient detail for each part, I’ll be working the details rightly when I’ve sculping in a higher level for the expression,…but I don’t want also doing every pore of the skin,.
What matters is the EXPRESSIONS. so… there are no time to do more details here.
That said, I’ll be focused on the expressions that is the challenge, and refining each one gesture if there are time.

Thank you for the comments and crits, and keept going!..

#14

Uptdate: Base Pose, Robert De Niro as Paul Vitti.

#15

regards

#16

Not at all happy with the last hair, I did a test for this while trying to do the serious expresion, I dont know if looks better or worse with this or have yo follow with the planar, just the shape not stylized.

#17

I’m not at all happy with the base mesh because really doesn’t look like him…Is true  , so here is a little progress, but I have to watch this model another day with fresh eyes to see the mistakes, and then do the corrections, for now I did test on the hair as always (I like it) and moving parts here and there and adding a bit of detail.

another hair

a presto.

#18

Update: test shading, this give me an idea of how it looks right now,… and what I have to tweak and modeling better without texture skin again, instead of follow in my own mistakes, hedgehog hair

moving eyelashes and eyelids,

Keep working!

#19

Update, corrections.

15 minutes later:
test.

last work for today:

#20

Hey again,
Ok, I leave the lazy today and worked in the base mesh of him seriously (all kind of references), now I believe that I’m happy, no more texture updates :scream:

PS: Spin99I, I did the corrections that you told me just a few hours in your thread, and I’ll be working in the teeth this weekend, is the only thing that I’ve been leaving apart.

Keep working! :wavey:
