Ah. Yea sounds right. Good luck man:thumbsup:
HMC #20 - Expressions - Hugh Laurie
@delavega,BrettSinclair - thanks
filled in the top of the headā¦thereās still no back of the head yetā¦and the neck still needs workā¦

Great work so far - youāre doing well on the likeness. I actually was going to do a portrait of Hugh Laurie for a different competition a while back. I changed my mind in the end and did someone else, but I have a folder full of some decent high-res reference if you want it - Iām sure you have plenty already, but PM me if you do.
Looking great! A little off topic but what technique did you use for making the eyeballs. I am on the lookout for a good tutorial. I donāt like the eyes I got
@BertieRooster: hey iād really appreciate some of the referenceā¦iāll pm you my email later
@shin4: thanks
@waterlilly: i used the following 2 tutroials to get my eyesā¦i didnāt do it all exactly like it says, and i changed a few things later onā¦but if you follow these you should get a nice resultā¦

Thanks so much, I am eternally thankful :bowdown:Jensen will have eyes soon thanks to u.
did a lot of tweaking this morningā¦just got to finish off the lower neck collarbone areaā¦then i might unwrap it and take it into mudbox and see how that goesā¦

Very good likeness. And nice to see you back at work on this
I assume you will be doing something with those nGons at the top of the head? or does Mudbox support them?

did a little bit more tweaking and whacked a quick shirt on himā¦strangely i think it helps with the likenessā¦lolā¦

little bit more tweaking around the mouthā¦and a different angleā¦i feel like iāve just about nailed it on this one
EDIT: added a jacket as wellā¦not so happy with it but it will do for nowā¦

just been playing around with hair and it turns out it helps to read the manualā¦lolā¦iād always struggled with getting hair in the right place at the right length and things like thatā¦
turns out iād been struggling with setting and styling when i could have just been using maps insteadā¦
hereās a quick test with a map for density and cut lengthā¦obviously the hair style aināt right but i havenāt even touched that bit yetā¦

hopefully this will mean iāll be able to get real good control over his beard/stubble, which was one area i was quite worried aboutā¦
@BrettSinclair: thanks, that means a lot especially considering the caliber of work you put outā¦
alrighty, iāve finally jumped back into mudboxā¦first time in about a yearā¦lolā¦possibly moreā¦and iād forgotten how fun it wasā¦anyway iāve got a little bit of sculpting doneā¦

i was tempted to do symettry so as to cut down on sculpting time but decided against it, so iām scilpting one side at a time. that way each side will be uniqueā¦
i also think iām going to leave pore detail and stuff as a bump map and just do wrinkles/viens as a displacementā¦
okay hereās a first pass on the sculpting and i must say iām quite pleased with itā¦although iām having some problems which iāll get to in a minuteā¦

now the problem iām having is getting the displacement maps out of mudboxā¦i had to export the hi res mesh to get the above renderā¦
as far as a i know i have it set up right, its the same settings iāve used previously and they worked thenā¦but for some reason now when i go to create the map it goes through a few steps and comes up ācannot open temporary displacement map test_d.tifā
donāt really know whats going on though as iāve never been that great at the whole displacement map businessā¦
anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing that? iām using mudbox 1.0.4
okay i think i solved my displacement map problemsā¦
turns out there was a tiny bit of my original UVās outside the UV space and that was throwing up the errorā¦
iāve fixed it up now and can generate a displacement mapā¦now iāve just gotta tweak the settingsā¦and then learn how to render with themā¦lol
EDIT: had to post this just cos its quite amusingā¦olā hughs had a bit of an allergic reaction to displacementā¦

Emotion 2: Confusedā¦he looks a little sadā¦but iām guessing house would be sad if he was confusedā¦

Yeah I can see likeness!
There is definitely Dr. House in the model.
But compared to a photograph I think the actual model is a bit too skinny. Maybe this impression is created by the eyes which look a way too big.
Oh by the way the eye-balls look beautiful. How did you get 'em to this level of realism?
