haha, looking forward to this one!

#3

Awesome! Anyone seen him as Prince Ludwig in Blackadder II? That was my all-time fave.

#4

Yeah, saw it a long time ago but also saw it recently after seeing House. Nice little surprise.

#5

well I’ve been a huge fan of his before House even was being planned - since I’m a big Blackadder fan but more importantly a big Stephen Fry fan and the Fry and Laurie duo did a lot of good stuff way in the past  I totally recommend A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster as 2 excellent examples of British comedy! Blackadder, naturally is just pure gold [he also played Prince Regent in the 3rd season and stupid officer George in the 4th].

Ok geekyness aside, great choice of a face! Love that man

#6

i was thinking of waiting to finish olivia before starting hugh but ah what the heck lets do em both at the same time…lol…

here’s my first progress on hugh…following the same method i did last time since that seemed to work quite well…

#7

bit more of an update…i’m using the same eyes from my olivia model as i’m really happy with them…

i think before texturing he’s going to look like a much younger hugh laurie…lol

#8

I’m curious about something - which application are you using - becasue your meshes look like they’re thick and double sided - quite intriguing

#9

@intervain: I’m just using max but i’ve got a shell modifier applied to the mesh just to give it a bit of ‘pop’…

#10

oh, right…

#11

filled out a lot of the face now…i think the likeness is fairly good even at this early stage…

#12

He’s tricky. A very wide chin for such a gaunt face. From the previous front view I think the chin needs to be a bit wider but its hard to tell. I see the resemblance, good start.

#13

hey you’re right about the chin…i’d lost track that it was so wide…i’ll fix that up

#14

not feeling so well today so i haven’t got that much done but i have given hugh a forehead and a nasolabial(i love that word) fold and widened his chin somewhat

also whilst on my ref hunt i came across one expression that i just know i’m going to have to do…

and whilst we are on a lighter note…i was looking back through some of my old 3d work today and came across this…from around 3 years ago…it was my first attempt at creating a human head…bear in mind this is supposed to be johnny depp…and was to be for a jack sparrow portrait…

it was another year after this before i tried one again and that was for the movie icon challenge…been doing 3d for 10 years now and i’ve only really progressed my organics in the last 2…lol…

Nice going, maybe in future update you could put the photo and your model side to side, that way it would be easier to see what can be improved.

Cheers.

#16

Looking good so far. Also maybe post a wireframe on shaded model for topo.

#17

bit more of an update:

  • added a modified olivia ear(couldn’t be bothered modeling a whole new one…lol)
  • began his neck
  • filled out the side of the head a bit

@BrettSinclair: here’s the wire

@JMART - once i get a little bit more done (ie fill out the rest of the head) i’ll do some photo comparison renders

#18

Nice. Looks really clean. Will you model the wrinkles or zbrush them?

#19

Nice job in this base so far Robo. There is a good likeness to your mesh. 1000% improvement from your old head from 3 years ago. You’re coming along really fast on this one. With 2 threads too. No crits as of yet, but I thought I`d drop a friendly message and subscribe to the thread. Good luck.

i think i might use this to practice my sculpting, and the workflow of max to mudbox to max…

i’ll obviously have to model the main ones so they’ll be able to deform properly but i’m guessing the majority of the fine ones will come in mudbox…

@RageOfAges: thanks mate, i’m surprsing myself a bit as well…and its more like a 10,000% improvement over that old head…it hurts my eyes looking at it…lol
