HMC #19 - Cheetara

#141

Menthol, thank you for that tip! That alpha works so good I saved the new brush to my presets as ‘Super Pinch’, primo advise.

Made attempts to address the areas you guys mentioned (menthol, airflow). Turned out pretty good.

Thanks razeverius, senseicapi

Today was quite frustrating. After the early victories making corrections on the body I finally turned my attention to the face. (sigh) First, I got nowhere near sculpting Heather Thomas’ face. The smile kept coming out goofy and without that the rest was pointless. I see now for the future I’ll need to model facial poses in LW and then sculpt that in ZBrush.

Anyway, after finally deciding what her face looked like I then tried matching Cheetara’s expression in the shot I’m duplicating. That’s when I spent about 3 hours working on the same stupid spots over and over again. I’m still not happy with the outcome but I had to stop at some point.

In the shot she’s leering to the left at the camera but the problem is she just looks too sinister. Drat, at least it renders well.

#142

She is coming together nicely! Can’t wait to see her in the action pose you have at the beginning of the post.

#143

Thanks Waterlilly, I’ll do my best.

Okay, finished the body sculpting and painting. My original design was to make her even more cheetah like. Her spot pattern is much closer to a cheetah now and is loosely based on Jadzia Das’ tattoos. In addition to her normal markings around her eyes I gave her a cheetah eye markings as well. Hope you like the interpretation.

#144

Awesome wyatt! My one critique would be to perhaps have more of a contrast in value between the pants and skin. If I were to just glance at the images, it would be hard to differentiate between the two color values. I love what you’ve done with the skin! Turning out great

#145

Nice work there WyattHarris. Have you typed “Thundercats Cheetara” into Google image search…

I like the texturing except for the black lines on her face, kinda distracting and doesn’t really add anything.
I think her biceps are a bit too small/thin and too defined - looks like she’s flexing.
Joints in the thumbs need some fixing.
Her brow and area to the side of the chin might need softening too.

Looking forward to seeing it finished too, should be great.

#146

Oh my…i did.

#147

cool man! I think that some gentle smoothing on the arms to soften them a little would help without spending too much time on it. As far as the black lines on her face goes… I kinda like them  makes it “your own”

#148

@japetus - Yeah I know. Her skin came out much more yellow than I intended. Fixing in PS is not so great an option the way ZBrush does UVs. I’m going to try again to color correct it a bit, we’ll see. More time would be nice too.

@T0ber - Hehe, can’t say I didn’t mind researching this topic. You don’t like the eyes? Bummer, I think they are pretty cool. I think they will look cooler once her face is shrouded by her hair too.

Adjusted the textures and the size of the bracelet. Only doing 3AA passes, thats why its fuzzy. I thought this laptop at work was going to smack me for even asking it to render this scene. Even so, I love LightWave 9.6’s new carpaint material.

#149

sigh

Now, why can’t my hiney look like that?

#150

Very nice work on the texture!
I’d say her anatomy needs quite a bit more sculpting work to call it finished though.

Cheers!

I’m going to have to disagree with you guys on the flexing. It is intentionally done because in the pose I’ve selected all the muscles in her arms will be flexed. I’ve been using reference pics of female Olympic sprinters and when they are flat out running this is how they look. Granted their muscles are typically longer and leaner but I wanted Cheetara to look stronger than that. I looks odd in the T-pose but it should be right once she is posed correctly.

Finished sculpting and painting her gauntlet. Instead of putting the Thundercat logo on her chest I had decided early on to give her a belt. I’ve been trying to decide if it was going to be a utility belt or made of silver/gold. I think the black belt looks better with her uniform but I need to break up the texture a bit.

Okay don’t laugh. This next shot is nothing more than me selecting some polys for a scalp and doing a hair test render. Instant DAVID BOWIE! lol I like the general look but it is not practical for this challenge. With radiocity turned on the full shot took 40min. to render. Plus I’d have to learn for to style and shadowing etc. So I’ll have to get to sculpting some hair.

So, all that remains is her eyes, hair, finish the pants and the rig. This is looking doable I just hope I have time to go back and do some touchups.

#152

go go go Wyatt,Goodluck!

#153

Oh man, 80’s hair!

#154

All I have to say is tons tons better from last time I saw it. Sculpting really helped define some of the missing muscle structures. Elbow looks great I’d have to say. Can’t wait to see it with a pose and a new perm. (Even though David Bowie does look freakin’ sweet on her!)

#155

Hahaha…that’s some 80’s hair alright! My coworker suggested creating a stipe of color down the middle. Good luck finishing! It’s looking great!

#156

Holy smokers, I just saw the final post thread is up to 40 replys. :buttrock:
Now I have to finish.

Thanks everyone. I figured it would be down to the wire. Almost done but of course everything that is left is tedious and slow. Gonna be an all nighter.

#157

Wyatt! Wyatt! He’s our man! If he can’t do it no one can! waves pink pompoms

#158

Quick update then back to work. I did finish all of my modeling yesterday so technically it’s on time. Just getting the rig and pose down. This is proving much more complicated than I originally thought.

#159

wow, its looking really good, love the hair and the confident expression she has.

#160

Your hair sculpt looks awesome Wyatt. I liked the 80’s hair better, though. And that’s an honest opinion, no joke. Just needed to resolve the area where the hair comes out of the scalp and you would have had an AWESOME homage to 80’s cartoons. However, now with the sculpted hair, your entry has been reduced to the status of INCREDIBLE!!

Good luck with the pose. I know first hand it can be a rough process.
