HMC #19 - Cheetara

#81

Hehe, I know what you mean. It’s been storming so bad down here that I couldn’t possibly do any yard work so that meant I could spend the whole day modeling.

Progress from the last couple of days. I reworked the hands again and I think the geometry makes more sense and I should be able to sculpt the tendons and knuckles better now. To that end however the mesh at the wrist no longer matches the arm. Not a problem though as Cheetara wears a gauntlet on her wrist. This will cover that entire section so no problem.

Cheetara’s left gauntlet. In the original character sheet the staff was held on by a magnet. I may use the back end of the gauntlet as a holster. Not sure yet.

Smoothed and in place on her arm. This is only a test.

I went ahead and sized her boots to fit and assembled everything. Again nothing is final in this placement yet.

Edit: I think her boots need to be bigger so they go up to her knees or closer at least.

Pants and corset remain.

I just thought this was funny. I’m planning some type of ancient looking script or hieroglyphs to go on Cheetara’s staff. And then it hit me, “The Book of Omens”.

Yeah, not really what I was looking for. Lets see, I see a TC emblem, leaf, mushroom, pig, stick figure in a boat, fish skeleton…

I think an animator was enjoying himself.

#83

I’d like to make an observation about the character’s silhouette:

She doesn’t look like she could run very fast. The heavy chest, flat bottom and slender thighs don’t seem very appropriate to me.

I’d expect her to have more developed musculature on her lower body, i.e bigger ass.

Of course realism is probably not your first consideration when designing fictional mutant cat people, and cheetahs are pretty flimsy looking in real life, so maybe it’s irrelevant.

#84

Aelph, Im sure hes going to sculpt all that stuff anyway. Its like in my entry the hands were kinda thrown together cos they could be fixed in the sculpt so much so it was pointed out I had an extra set of knuckles
Cant wait to see this in zbrush. Bounces impatiantly on tip toes.

#85

You’re probably right.

Maybe just looks weird to me because the volume of the upper body has been roughly established already.

#86

Agreed. Nice Topo for sculpting, Wyatt. Only thing I notice is the lack of geometry for the sterno cleido mastoid, in the neck area.
In passing, it’s strange how you can get away with some muscle structures to just sculpt away, and others, if the topo isn’t right, can get you weird results. I find the sterno cleido mastoid to be one of these.

Can’t wait to see the sculpt !

Thanks Airflow, you are correct.

You are also correct Aleph on every point. Bigger butt, bigger thighs, I’m going for 80’s women not Cheetah sized woman. See, you guys are gonna make me post my references, I was trying to hold off.

Not only am I basing the face on Heather Thomas but lets face it, she has the perfect physique for it too. Shame most of it will be covered in clothing.

@Rage - Oi, you’re just going to force me to go to google aren’t you. Hmm, sterno cledio… ah yes, the big neck muscle. Yeah, it’s pretty light on geo. I’ll give it another look.

Cheetara wears a gauntlet on her left wrist, on her right wrist she wears bracelets. I had an idea that the Sword of Omens is representative of Thundaran culture and design so therefore the design is seen elsewhere. So now we see the motif on Cheetara’s arm. I added the bands extending from the back to represent speed. I tried 8 at first but that was way too cluttered.

Rendered in place. I really like the crest extending over the top of her hand. This’ll be interesting to sculpt around.

#89

Not a big update. I’m about to start on the pants so I wanted the mesh to be a bit more anatomically correct. Did a little sculpting in ZBrush then exported back out to LW. I think I’ve got the sizing between the programs correct finally.

A is the old, B is the new. Not much I could sculpt with this many polys so the differences are subtle yet profound to me. I don’t know, we’ll see.

@Rage - Forget about the neck. I needs more polys.

#90

Very nice bracelet!
Maybe its a bit early to comment on, but on the body I’d say you really need to widen those hips and trim down the traps. The lower body looks rather boyish to me right now.

Cheers!:arteest:

#91

That`s right! We want a big butt!! and forget about the clothes. In fact, forget about Cheetara and model Heather Thomas instead

Lol I agree with Felix. definitely widen those hips before you get the pants done. It`ll save you headaches later if you were planning on doing it anyway.

#92

Yep, you guys are right. I need better reference in ZBrush. The setup image I used was way too thin. I’ll fix tonight.

#93

aha i was about to say that she looked quit flimsy but i’m not in the position to crit coz im not great as those guys but yeah. I guess cheetara’s gonna have a sexy make over:D

btw won’t that hurt when she lifts her hand up since the tip of the bracelet is kinda pointed?

#94

For reference of athletic girls, might I suggest;

Leryn Franco, track and field
Erin Densham, Triatholon
Almudena Cid, rhythmic gymnastics
Allyson Felix, sprinter
Niki Gudex, mountain bike
Anna Kournikova, tennis (and modelling lately)
Adriana Lima, model

#95

Why yes, yes you may suggest any you wish.

And no, she has trained herself very hard to not injure her hand. And by training I mean gouging the crap out of it hehe. Besides it doubles as a weapon, imagine having that rammed into you at Cheetara’s top speed.

Anyway, extruded some pants using a really time consuming method (ugh) and brought them into ZBrush for light sculpting. The heavy stuff will come later. Right now it’s just to get the shape to add the accessories.

#96

The shape of the legs are coming along nicely and sexy. The boots really do look good with the whole lower body.

#97

couldn`t have said it better. Damn nice improvement on her shape. Can we get a full figure grab (and I mean screen grab :D)

#98

Thanks very much for that Vshen. It’s hard to tell how somethings gonna come out when your dreaming it up.

Speaking of…

Laced pants, ugh. I don’t know what I was thinking when I cooked this idea up. Positioning 100 eyelets is not fun. Does anyone know of a Lightwave command or plug-in that does the same as “Rest on Ground” except for geometry. I’d really appreciate it.

#99

Lol Rage. Well it’s not full figure but it is full screen.

#100

i think laced pants is a great idea!
Regarding the eyelets, why not paint them on with Zbrush?
half their surface area would probably be covered by the lace.

i do understand why u want them to be mesh tho, just a suggestion if u’ve got no time.
