HMC #19 - Cheetara

#1

Funny thing about this topic. My wife had just recently checked the Thundercats DVDs out from the library for my son who is 4. It took 1 episode to turn him into a giant Thundercats fan. I was planning on modeling Cheetara anyway since I’ve been watching the show so much. Guess it was fate.

The only adult female of the Thundarian Nobility. Designed by Tobin “Ted” Wolf, Cheetara’s main chracteristic during concept was speed. She is able to run at supersonic speeds over short distances just as her namesake. Thundercats was well known for being one of the few Cartoons created in Japan for the American audience and it’s animation still holds up today.

The time in my original thread got screwed up some how so I’m redoing it. Roberto feel free to delete the old thread.

Slow Motion Intro - Cheetara
I plan on doing something like the intro shown above. Maybe a few poses and if all goes well maybe a little animation, we shall see.

Okay, Frame captures from the DVD are coming out pretty good.

Thundercats Hoooooo!

Cheetara intro, frame-by-frame

good luck again wyatt…don’t know what happened to the old thread and why my post was first…hopes it doesn’t happen again

Still collecting reference. I just noticed something funny is all. All of the Thundercats have typical cat-eye pupils whereas none of the actual big cats have cat-eyes. (lions, tigers, panthers and cheetahs that is)

#5

Awesome character, awesome show. I hope you get excellent final results on this project. If you are looking for good references, you should check out the Thundercats comics, they are draw with different style than the tv version, but they will probably help you.

Hello Wyattharris…

Nice to see you around since HMC#16 (tribute do Stan Winston)…

Excellent Choice man…!! I want to see it finished…

Good Luck

//cheers.

Zombie: I like most of the art style from the comics. I really like Cheetara’s straight hair in this crossover. TC Vs. Superman

I’m probably going to stick closer to the cartoon though. Thanks for the link.

Thanks Itsgallus, I’ll do my best.

#8

Good luck, Wyatt! Can’t wait to see this one!

#9

Thanks Waterlilly.

I’ve decided to go ahead and shoot for this pose. It always stands out the most in that sequence plus it’s just awesome looking.

And at least I finished the most important piece. Not able to get a good render out of it yet so just a preview. I’ll adapt this a bit to fit as her chest piece.

#10

that is one mighty cool logo…

#11

Love it  Thundercats Hoooo! Good luck with this model, seeing your previous work I’m excited to see how this turns out

#12

Hey Wyatt, I agree with you about the pose. I think it captures the essence of the character very well. Can’t wait to see this one take shape.

#13

wwwhhooaaa Thundercats! i love this HMC lol…brings back the old days of cartoons…Goodluck!:buttrock:

#14

Hey Wyatt,
funny thing is I am also planning on doing Cheetara. She is awesome and ive always wanted to model her.
Seeing your post makes me rethink if i should really do her or not.

#15

Thanks guys.
Well Ryan, I know you wouldn’t have any trouble with her after that great Michael Phelps you did.

Alrighty, just about done with the concept. Last thing I need to choose is the face. I want to use a famous face from the 80’s but I’m having a hard time deciding.

So far my mind is stuck on:
Debbie Gibson (original recipe)

or Heather Thomas from The Fall Guy

Anyone else you guys can think of is cool too. I certainly haven’t decided anything.

#16

Maybe Sean Young? Back in the 80’s she was in her prime (Bladerunner), she had a lovely face.

#17

Heather Thomas, hands down.

#18

Seconded!

Thats a great casting. She has alot of the same features… including the hair!

#19

Yeah, after comparing the two, I’m definitely leaning that way myself.

Playing around with the new Car Paint material in LW 9.6. I think I tweaked too much. Most of the detail got lost in the render. Anyway, I decided to give her a belt with this as a buckle instead of a chest piece.

#20

Couple of concept sketches.

Quick sketch of Heather Thomas, added Cheetara markings. The brown area is Cheetara’s actual marks plus the spots in the hair. The black areas around the eyes are stylized Cheetah patterns. The right one was the initial try, the left one was embellished a bit so, I think, it came out better. I gave her black lips like a Cheetah but that may not stay. Let me know what you think or maybe better suggestions.

Misc concept sketches. Starting from the left:
Her staff in passive mode. I’ll engrave it with some faux Sandskrit looking text. I was looking for Thundercat writing or Hyroglyphs but nothing turned up.

Her top will be a corset, lots of buckles. I wanted to have her with both shoulders bare to show off her Cheetah markings. Similar to Jadzia Dax’s tattos but not up the face.

Her belt will have the thundercat logo as a buckle. I was trying to come up with a utility belt of some kind but it just didn’t look right.

Her actual Bracer and to the right of that the bracer I’m going with.

Okay, I don’t think I can conceptualize any more. Time to stop procrastinating and get busy.
