High Frequency Detail in Fluid Sims

#1

Hi there, just looking at some fluid sims, and wondered if anyone had any advice on the best way of getting high requency detail into the sim.

Heres an example someone posted here (particularly the last video): http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=86&t=1210256

My sims tend to lack this super high frequency detail and wondered the best way to add this, is it fluid textures, desnity noise, or just really high resolution?

Thanks in advance

This thread has all the answers. It just requires the right resolution in the sim with a mix of swirl, velocity and turbulence… which I prefer to do with particles when possible (even ncloth sometimes!)

And of course plenty of trial and error!

And this is the big one, it was buried deep… I knew there was another thread… .its been ages!

Thanks for the reply Howard.
I think i kinda knew there would be no one correct answer, just having some frustration at what feels like a lack of control over maya fluids, when trying to include this kind of detail.
Wil keep trying.

Scour those threads and just try lots of trial and error.

Start simple, and see what sims, change one thing, see the difference… repeat…then build up to something more complex. Never try to go for final from the start. Baby steps.

You can usually get an idea from the first 20-50 frames, even if they take a while to sim, how everything will look.

Vikas is pretty awesome, and has shown what can be done. Use plenty of fuel, temperature and velocities to get what you want.
