I just remember when we were playing Mechcommander in the net
years ago there was like a thousand people around with callsigns like
Madcat002, MadKat, .x…mAdcAt…x. , etc. hehe
Yea that 'Mech just looks so cool .
We were playing the pen&paper board game with a friend of mine once,
a reconstructed scenario of one of the first battles of the Clans against
Inner sphere forces. We had at least a dozen 'Mechs to a side and I was
commanding the Clan units. The MadCat was of course my favourite ,too,
and I put it boldly as the spearhead of my forces, starting to barrage
the Inner Sphere 'Mechs with its long range weapons and then just taking
in their fire as my other units moved to flank the enemy.
It was such a brainless tactic, but somehow it held. With no Clan code of
honor to restrict them, all the Inner Sphere units concentrated their fire
on the MadCat , instead of each finding their own opponent.
Now they weren’t as good pilots and their 'Mechs were inferior to the Clans,
but we were pretty sure the MadCat was going to be run over rather
quickly nonetheless. There was bits of armor flying everywhere as missile
after missile, laser blast after laser blast tore into the big 'Mech.
And it stood and kept firing back. As if by tribute to the bold move of
putting the fearsome 'Mech in the lead, the hits it took spread evenly
around it’s body like from a shotgun blast. The result of this was that
after the Madcat had put down or crippled three Inner Sphere 'Mechs
and taking in insane amount of beating it was still standing, with every
bit of frontal armor and much of its internal sturcture torn away. It got
off yet two deadly PPC blasts that ripped into ranks of the Freebirths
before it was destroyed by a headshot.
But it had bought the time, the flanking manoeuver was done
and the rest of the Clan 'Mechs moved in for the kill.
I always wanted that scene made into a movie clip, hehe, just awesome.
