Helzer's Sketches

#721

remcv8 - I guess I do have a few sketches here  thanks for the inspiring words.

Mu - Many thanks, I’m actually working on a couple pieces that will be hi-rez and polished. Someday I will post them. I just haven’t time as of late. It’s pretty much 20 mins here and there. One of them is the “Harley Davidson in the Land of the Giants” sketch I did a few pages back and the other is sort of inspired from Dante’s Inferno. I’ll post them eventually. Thanks, again

jpedro - Thanks, I haven’t seen the movie yet. Most likely I will wait for it on DVD. I can’t handle peripheral noises in theatres. Anyhow, the majority say it’s a visual feast. It should be good.

A couple more sketches - 45 and 60 mins apiece.

Hey daniel,

the sketch that shows the Battle of Thermopylae…it felt more epic than the 300 movie. Honestly. I saw 300 and I felt cheated a bit. It was pretty bloody but it was not at all like the epic feel that lord of the rings in the return of the king had…remember that scene where Gandalf appears at the rising of the sun and he pours down the side of the mountain? I couldn’t breathe at that point and your sketch has that same terror but vicotyr with a lone spartan and thousands of Persians almost oozing out of the distance

Buonasera!

As usual, beautiful sketches, and ESPECIALLY sketches with a strong emotional impact.

You know that I’m already drooling for the two polished pics, isn’t it?

Serena.

#724

LunaticSymphony - Thanks! Yeah, I really loved the epic battle scenes in Lord of the Rings, especially in the Two Towers. The ebb and flow of hope in those scenes were fantastic

CyborgJA - Thank you Serena  The polished pieces are going slower than anticipated. It seems I have to set aside more time to work on them. I can’t work on them for twenty minutes and stop, like I do a sketch. I will eventually get around to them. In the meantime, I did another 300-ish sketch. I still haven’t seen the movie, though.

40 mins.

Nice to come back here from time to time and get fascinated by the style your speedpaintings looks. And pretty different from each other, at least this last page. Great use of textures again, the huge army looks awesome. Really seems that it’s swarming with persians. And I love the last one. The large amount of arrows look believable, only that the warrior shall loose his leg after this. He should cover his whole body with that shield. Didn’t you see 300 yet?

#726

Thanks Razz  Yeah, I think his leg is doomed, too. I haven’t seen 300 yet, I will eventually. I would like to see it within a theatrical setting, but most likely I will purchase on DVD.

40 mins

DUDE!~! SHAME ON YOU, GO TO THE CINEMA RIGHT AWAY. That movie is just too rockin’ to miss it one day more. :D:scream:

Great sketches as always. I know i dont realy post much in here, but I’m certainly watching it!

#728

Just saw 300 with my son yesterday, and must say that I want to see it again. Visual splender!!! The wave of arrows also reminded me of the scene in Jet Li’s “Hero”, another visually inspiring film.

Diggin your sketches.

#729

wow daniel…the future chariot of the military…

Look at that thing…it could really be damn useful in war. think of the automatic control by motion detecting sensors attached to the soldiers legs …they could go over all kinds of bumps and grinds and feel almost nothing and never be tired plus they could carry four times more than they carry already on their backs by attaching it to the back of the chariot…

WOW…my head just exploded. thanks daniel.

#730

It’s late and I’m pretty tired. I worked on this the entire day. Thanks everyone for your really nice comments  Oh, tomorrow, I’m finally going to see 300! – hopefully it’s still playing

#731

Wow, that’s a crazy-cool pic!!! That guy is a lefty on the guitar too.

You’ve got some dope-diggity-freaky-cool ideas in that head of yours.

#732

Haha I bet no one is gonna have the guts to take that 5 dollar bill from next to the blind man’s hat :bounce:

Lovely work!

#733

hi daniel, the last picture is hilarious. some great ideas in that picture, like the tusks, and the eyes are very gazy(if that’s even a word)

i think the guitar player falls off slightly in comparison to the creature, particulrarly his right hand looks like it could use a little work. his fingers seem a bit chopped off in my view, especially his ring finger.

just my two cents, it’s a great pic nonetheless, your thread is always a great inspiration.

best,
Jan

#734

wow your textures are great.

#735

aldog - Yeah, I spent awhile just doing the textures. Thanks for the good word.

jpedro - You’re probably right. The musician was the last thing I did and I was tired, so some things were rushed. Thanks

NR43 - Ha! I should have put a severed hand holding a bill next to the hat.

remcv8 - Hey, I just noticed that: a lefty. It wasn’t my intention, it just worked better in the composition that way.

Thanks everyone

Here’s a couple more sketches

#736

a little over 40 mins.

#737

35 minutes

#738

whassup dan?! still amazing i see. you have the most astonishing feel for texture and shape, each image hits the right notes. great stuff

#739

:eeek:

MANNNNNNNNNNNNNN… do you know I love you, yes? I still have to check all the updates from cgsociety but have you posted this image to 2d gallery, isn’t it?
ISN’T IT? O_o

#740

…you jest with such sweet enthusiasm, Serena  I did submit that particular piece to the 2D gallery, but it disappeared quickly. Most of my stuff shares the same fate. I haven’t had too much luck over there. No complaints, though, because I don’t spend much time there anyhow. I generally spend more time browsing other artist’s sketch threads or the DSF. Many thanks and arrivederci
