I can really recommend the NeoEngine, it’s an opensource engine and very powerfull. http://neoengine.sourceforge.net
if you want some pictures from it, look @ the openFRAG project, it’s also using this engine (and i’m the origin of oF :P)
some screens:
techdemo v.2:
that isn’t all, but i’m not going to show all our things, and some of they aren’t released yet
thanks for the reccomendation. good luck on the project. PS cool screen shots - is the engine hard to use as i have never used it before. & how is the scripting like. thanks

You can download a free mod of quake 1 called Tenebrae. They’re making Tenebrae 2 which will be a stand alone engine. It’s open source. The graphics quality is close to Doom 3 because they are using per-pixel shaders. The tools are the same as the ones for Quake III.
You can buy Torque engine for $100. It’s simple and pretty easy to use. It uses MAX and Valve Hammer Editor for levels.
You can also buy Cipher Engine for $100. It’s very powerful. The only draw-back is that all geometry is done in MAX, even the levels, and everything else is done in c/c++. This engine is something you may want to look into using after you graduate if you won’t use it now. It is evolving very quickly.
Hope I helped.
thanks for the reply atenyotkin…
I have checked out the Tenebrae and it has some cool screen shots. wanted to ask you what type of scripting is used with this… (as i am only farmilear with a bit of unreal script and C++/C)
again thanks for the reply…

I dont’ know too much about Tenebrae. I use Cipher. However you can ask the developers at the forum…
www.tenebrae2.com ==> FORUMS ==> general.

From what I understand you’re just starting to get into the game development industry. What I would suggest is using either the Doom III engine, or the Source enginge powering Half-Life 2, to make a MOD. I suggest using the Source Engine, because it’s more vesitile, and the AI and Physics are better than any other engine. You have access to the entire engine as soon as you buy the game. It comes out on November 11th.
Another reason I suggest using Source engine, is if you make a kick@$$ MOD, Valve might hire you.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks for the reply… I have considered the doom 3 engine and half life 2 as well. the thing is i dont know them as well as i know the unreal engine… any way I am gogin to go to the forum you advised… then i will get back to you on my choice… Again thanks a lot for the help it will really help when it comes to crunch time (in a month or so - LOL)…:applause:
