Ok, So I only started using Blender 2 days ago, and I may be in way over my head.
The reason I started using blender was because I started using Sculptris. Anytime I tried to export my sculptris models into 3ds there would be an error (I imagine because of all the trieangles >.>).
THEN I discovered particles, which is very cool.
I started testing particle fur and Im having a few problems. The version of Blender I am using is 2.58.
First problem I am having is when I create a particle system, the fur seems to be patchy. Some portions of the model have fur, and some don’t. Meaning It isn’t evenly placing the particles on the model, even when I have it set to 1000. I do have a theory for this. I think (becuase i was just testing) that this may be caused by the fact, I exported this directly from Sculptris, and the triangles are denser in some area than in others. (I didn’t bother to lower the resolution a bit before exporting, its around 100k triangles I think).
If this is the case, how do you retopo in blender? Does anyone have any good link for this? Keep in mind I am a complete newbie to Blender, and even in 3ds I never retopo’ed anything (always tried to pay close attention to topo to begin with). So maybe tutorials that cater to people who are new to retopo and/or blender.
2nd, Once I get the fur evenly distributed, I’d really like to easily apply a fur pattern to the particles(ya know like, say, a raccoon or something).
I did find this tutorial http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Furry and that is exactly what I want to do, but this was created in an older version of Blender, and apparently they overhauled the UI in 2.5. So I can’t find some of these options in 2.5, are they even the same, would this be done a different way now?
I’d be more than happy to show someone the mesh I am working with if someone would like a better idea of what I am working with. Let me know if you need examples of some of my troubles.
… anyway here is a re-topo video I personally like though, since you are new, you have to pay close attention the first minutes so you don’t get lost when he sets up the mesh to be re-topologised.
