Hello, I’m a currently unemployed animator who just got his first art test recently. I was asked to animate a spider walking and climbing on buildings, but blocking out the legs has given me a frustratingly large amount of trouble. It doesn’t seem that I will be able to complete it before the deadline, but I would appreciate any tips/suggestions on how to approach this in the future.
Help with animating a spider
Here is something that was help to a freind of mine

Hope it helps you.
A good way to animate stuff like that moving around is just take a layered approach. If your spider has to climb over buildings etc you could hide the legs and not worry about them. Just focus on the body and getting the spider to where it needs to be and getting the body the way you want it. Then once you have the body sorted you can animate the legs.
Exactly.
Watch a lot of reference and pay attention to how the legs and body move. Depending on how realistic they want this thing you can play around with the timing. It can seem daunting at first, but working with just the body at first could help you wrap your head around it piece by piece.
Thank you very much for the help, I had been using that creativecrash link during the test but still got lost trying to animate each of the legs. I’ll definitely take the layered approach next time.
