Hi Guys, i am new to this forum and to MAYA :- ) I am currently getting my hands dirty and playing around with maya, and enjoying the process at the same time =P
Currently i am trying to Model + Animate a JellyFish in Maya, and would like to seek anyone's generic opinion on whether i am doing things correctly to get a rudimentary version of a moving jelly fish =p
1. Modeling (attached is an image of my model)
I have intentionally made use of MEL scripts to generate my model so that i could learn MEL scripting ie: sine curves, lofts and revolve etc so the model isn't exactly nice, but it serves my purpose in having a jelly fish to practice rigging.
Q: My jelly fish model is made up of 3 parts namely Head, Middle Segment and Tail.
The parenting hierachy is as such: Head parentOf Mid parentOf Tail.
Is this the correct way to combine three different parts to form a full body? Or for animation its better to NOT parent anything at all and animate each part individually ?

2. Rigging + Animation
Here's part. I have searched for jellyFish rig and i noticed that people were discussing about using hairs for the jellyFish. I think i can google search on how to make use of dynamic hair curves.
But i am wondering how should i go about simulating a jellyFish moving randomly and in an upwards swimming motion ?
In other words, if i were to use the hair dynamic curve to rig the jellyFish tentacles, how can i constantly apply a force to not make the hair droop downwards ?

Any feedbacks are most appreciated, especially the modelling part =P
