help remove big fat seam on UV of CAD tire

#1

Hi,

I have a CAD tire that I am trying to UV so I can paint this texture in PS. Geometry is CAD/triangles. Tread is separate from walls.

I did a cylindrical UV on the tire and the edges are pretty ugly/ not flush resulting in this big horrendous seam on my tire. How to fix?

Would rather not use triplanar textures, really want to just paint this one in PS. Any help appreciated!

Try tiling your texture, left side is equal to the right, you will be able to disguise the edge quite nicely.

it is tiled. But as you can see the UV map is not perfectly aligned with the left and right edges.

Alas, that’s a very sloppy model (not your fault) with triangles and quads and ngons every which way.

Is there any reason you can’t just model up a new tire and do the treads with texture mapping? Displacement, I mean?

It might be faster than struggling with someone else’s poor modeling skills.

You might need to fine tune closely by hand cutting the uv shell and sweing on the other end, try to make as even as possible or go with a procedural texture instead
