Ok, I’ve been trying different settings to overcome this problem but I haven’t had any luck. I have this model and I made the displacements in mudbox. Everything works fine in mudbox, no problems at all.

However, when I export the map, I get some weird white spots.

And that is causing (I think) some weird problems on my displacement

Ok, I assume that exploding face has something to do with the white spots, because they are where the exploding occurs. However, for the life of me I can’t seem to find a way to get rid of them :-/

EDIT: the rendering is being done with maya mentalray, btw

these dots can have different reasons…
there is not enough geometry in the lowpoly…
the search distance is not correct…
and some funky problems…

go and open the dispmap in photoshop and overpaint the dots will help…
a dispmap is only a picture you can paint in whatever you want…

well, I got it to work, thanks. It turned out it was the ray distance thing. I tried a smaller, but not so small value and the white spots began to go away. I reached a point where they were just gone so everything works fine now.

On a side note, is it just me or Maya displaces the model too much? I am finding myself in the need to decrease the alpha gain on my displacement texture because the default setting displaces the model way too much :-/
