[HELP] New Desktop for VFX

Hi there… I’m ordering a new desktop just for Computer graphics and renderings and I was wondering if you guys can confirm my choices…

Professional software used: Maya, zBrush, Mudbox, Photoshop, Mari, Nuke, After Effects, Equalizer.

Desktop Descriptions:

Case: CORSAIR GRAPHITE SERIES™ 600T WHITE MID-TOWER CASE

CPU: Intel core i7, six core, 4930k, 3.4GHz,12 MB chace

Mother : ASUS, P9X79 WS, 2011, QUAD ddr3, USB 3.0, SATA 6 GB/s

Memory RAM: 32 GB Kingston Hyper-x beast dual DDR3 2133MHz x.m.p

Graphic card: PNY Quadro k4200 4GB GDDR5, 1344 CUDA Cores.

Hard Disk 1: 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s

Hard Disk 2: 4 TB 3.5", SATA-III 6 GB/s HDD 5900RPM 64MB CHACHE

Power Supply: Corsair 450W vs Series

Cooling sys: Corsair H60 Hydro series

I’d be looking at X99 motherboards and intel 5930k as the base for your new workstation, what you’re listing there is previous generation architecture. What’s your budget?

Other comment is your power supply seems badly underpowered - it might just cope with your components but it would be better to get a larger unit in case you ever decide to change your graphics card or add an extra one. Look at 850 - 1000w units, can still get them quite reasonably.

For the power supplier yes, I should change it to a bigger one…

About cpu and motherboard I’ve got just this choice in PCSpecialist where I’m buying my Desktop…

Good shout on the graphics card - although there will be a new version of the titan coming in the next few months, the titan black is a great card and handles all of the apps you mentioned just fine.

I tend to use either scan.co.uk or overclockers.co.uk for pc parts, and both do good pre-configured systems. I know overclockers is offering prebuilt based on the 5930k already.

That link has 5930k, 1000w psu, titan black, windows 8.1 pro, 250Gb ssd and 2Tb hard drive for £2200 inc vat. Decent price. Would be £230 cheaper if you went with just the nvidia gtx 980 - the newest card nvidia do, which performs better than a titan black in a lot of games etc.

For the PSU, 450 will be ok, but you wont get much else to run from it or be able to overclock at all. 800-1000w is excessive though :P. 650w is more than enough for a single cpu/single gfx card system, regardless of the components.

Yes, I pick up a 650W… I’m just looking for the right cpu and graphic card…

I use maya and zbrush the most…

now that the 900 series cards using maxwell are out its only a matter of time before we see titans based on maxwell.
