You might try deleting your custom workspaces as noted here. They may have become corrupted.
I’m not sure where to find them in vista, but the post linked above suggested "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Adobe\AfterEffects\7.0\ModifiedWorkspaces "
Username being your login
(The disadvantage is you will lose your custom workspaces, the advantage is you might be able to get back into AE after that)
Just in case it doesnt help, I recommend backing up the files instead of just outright deleting them, that way if it doesnt fix the crash you still have the custom workspaces.
hi, thanks for the reply…
Hmm… I don’t get it, why it can be corrupted… I used AE 7 before for years and it’s fine.
if I uninstalling AE CS 3 then I installing AE CS 4, will it be appear again?
Because your machine is a mess? File corruption is 99% of the time due to poor system care and maintenance like fragmented disks, overcrowded temporary directories or other processes (virus scanners, search tools) interfering with file operations. So look into these things and straighten them out. The rest has already been said. Custom workspaces can be part of the problem, if they reference specific script palettes or contextual tools that are dependent on certain other panels being open. Therefore resetting them is advisable. The rest is nonsense. All versions of AE operate independently. You can have them installed all at the same time, but no one can stop you from making a mess of any of them again. It’s simply your own problem.
