Help!!! I dont understand what my ik is doing

Im almost done rigging a robot character for one of my projects, While setting up one of the last ikSC a large box forms around the ik and it wont let me bend the middle joint. Does anyone know what the box is, and how to get rid of it so i can use my ik?

are any of the rotations on the joints locked?
